Panaji: The polling for two parliamentary seats in Goa would be held over 1,725 polling stations across the state, a senior election commission official said.
In a media statement released here, Goa Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma said that a total of 1,725 polling stations have been set up across the state, with 863 in the north and 862 in the south. “Among these polling stations, 43 model polling booths in North Goa and 45 in South Goa have been identified. It has been aimed at streamlining the voting process and reducing waiting times,” he said.
Goa has total 11,73,208 voters across the state of which 5,77,921 are inNorth Goa and 5,94,956 in South Goa. The ECI has registered 21,149 voters. The election will be held on May 7.
Verma said that to cater to the needs of senior citizens, medical camps will be set up at eight model polling stations in urban areas where there is a higher percentage of elderly voters.
“After casting their votes, senior citizens can avail basic facility of health checks provided by doctors from the Directorate of Health Services,” he said.
Verma said that in a bid to empower female voters and promote gender equality, forty dedicated polling stations for women, also known as Pink Booths, have been established in both North and South districts of Goa.
“These polling stations will be exclusively managed by women officials, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for female voters to exercise their democratic rights,” he said.
Verma said that prioritizing environmental sustainability, 40 Green Polling Stations have been set up in both the districts. “These eco-friendly booths are decorated using environmental sustainable materials such as bamboo and coconut leaves from local vendors , reflecting a commitment to reducing the ecological footprint of the electoral process,” he said.
The CEO said that to ensure inclusivity for persons with disabilities (PwD), Divyang Polling Stations have been established in both districts, with five in North Goa and three in South Goa.
