New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured the delegation of mining dependents from Goa and lawmakers including Members of Parliament to look into the matter of resuming the mining industry, a senior functionary said.
The delegation, which comprised all the three Members of Parliament from Goa and leaders of Goa Mining People’s Front, met PM at New Delhi on Wednesday morning.
GPMF President Puti Gaonkar said that the Prime Minister patiently heard ten minute long presentation given to him on the subject and assured to look into the matter.
“The PM said ‘mai dekhta hun’ (I will look into the matter) before concluding the meeting,” Gaonkar said.
The mining industry in the State has come to a standstill due to Supreme Court order which has quashed 88 Iron ore leases.
The order was given on February 07, 2018, exactly a year ago.
The delegation which met PM comprised of Union AYUSH minister Shripad Naik, Goa BJP Chief and Rajay Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar.
Other legislators from the mining belt of the State were also present during the meeting.
“My job has been done. I have tried to convince him that legally you can get the solution for the crisis,” Gaonkar said.
He stated that the amendment to Goa Daman and Diu Mining Concession and Abolition Act, 1987 can give new lease of life to the mining leases till the year 2037.
