Panaji: Town and Country planning minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that his department will review the permission granted to two real estate giants, after locals protested against their projects in the state.
Rane said that his department will review the permission granted to DLF company for their villa project at Reis Magos in North Goa while permission granted to Bhutani Infra Project Limited at Sancoale village in South Goa will be verified.
The minister said that the permissions for both these projects would be withdrawn if they were found violating the laws.
Several villagers have been protesting against these two projects claiming that both the builders were involved in large-scale cutting of the hills.
AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, earlier this week, had visited the site where DLF is coming up with their project, claiming that both the companies are involved in large-scale violations of the Town and Country planning laws.
Rane said that his department has not given any permission for hill cutting during last six months and whatever works that are currently going on, are in accordance with the permissions granted to them in the past.
He said that the government is thinking to strengthen the law against hill cutting. Rane said that he will soon be holding meeting with Chief minister Pramod Sawant to discuss the issue.
The minister said that the social media is abuzz with the videos and pictures about hill cutting, tagging him, in it. “We have to first verify whether there is permission granted for any such activity. If it is legally permitted then one cannot act against it,” he said.
Rane said that he has to act judiciously against the instances that are brought to his notice. The action will take place only after verifying the documents, he said.
