Panaji: All the seven opposition members of Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday met Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai demanding to intervene in the matter vis-à-vis their demand of a private members day during upcoming session of the House.
The members led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon. Other MLAs including Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party), Venzy Viegas (AAP) and Viresh Borkar (Revolutionary Goans Party) were also present during the meeting along with other members.
Talking to reporters after meeting the Governor, Alemao said that they explained to the Governor, their demand of a Private Members Day during the Assembly session scheduled to be held between January 16-19.
He said that the State government is “rattled with the unity of the opposition” and the curtailing of the session, excluding Private members’ day was done at the behest of the chief minister.
“The government is worried that we will expose the corruption, if the Session is allowed to be run for a longer duration,” he said.
Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar was violating the rule book by excluding Private Members’ Day from the Session.
Sardesai said that the Governor was convinced over the demand of the opposition and has assured to speak to the Speaker over the issue.
