Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has a reason to feel a bit relaxed this time, though his performance is expected to be tested on the floor of the House during the two day long session beginning from Monday.
The talk of United Opposition seems to have vanished, at least for time being, and all the non-BJP parties in the Assembly are busy arranging and re-arranging their alliance for upcoming election.
Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai was amongst the first person to coin this word “united opposition” or “Team Goa.” The team had its major players including Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and not to forget, firebrand Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
But the team seems to be not united any more. The upcoming Election has already cast its shadow on this unity of opposition.
The failed attempts of alliance has forced Sardesai to doubt intentions of Kamat-led Congress to defeat BJP during next election. Rohan Khaunte has remained silent spectator, though he has been firing salvo against the government on his own.
Reginaldo, after quashing rumours of joining Aam Admi Party, has reiterated that he is a Congressman. Just now, we heard news about his appointment as Working President of GPCC.
It would be interesting to see the body language of all these opposition MLAs in the Assembly. Will they united against BJP or their election agenda wil force them to stand against each other.
Let’s wait and watch
