NCP legislative party in Goa merged with TMC, informs Speaker

Panaji: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao on Monday said that party’s Goa legislative unit has been merged with Trinamool Congress Party.

Alemao met Speaker Rajesh Patnekar informing him that he has merged the Goa legislative wing into Trinamool Congress Party.

“Why should I resign as MLA? I continue to be MLA. I have merged the party’s legislative wing into TMC,” Alemao told reporters after meeting Speaker of legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar.

He said that being a lone MLA, he is hundred percent of the leiglative wing and hene the merger is valid as per the tenth schedule of the Indian constitution.

“More than two third of the members can merge the party’s legislative unit. Here, I am hundred per cent,” he said.

The Speaker was not available for his comments.

The 72-year-old politician representing Benaulim assembly segment will be formally joining TMC later during the day in presence of party chief Mamata Banerjee.
