Bicholim: AAP Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh submitted before a Goa court on Friday that he would not make any further statements against the wife of the State Chief Minister and BJP leader Sulakshana Sawant.

The defamation case filed by Sawant came up for hearing before a local court in Bicholim town of North Goa on Friday.

Sawant had filed a defamation case against Singh, seeking Rs 100 crore in damages from the AAP politician for allegedly naming her in the cash-for-jobs scam.

The court had sought Singh’s reply by January 10, 2025.

Speaking to reporters, Advocate Pralhad Paranjape, who represented Sawant along with senior counsel S.V. Manohar, said they were pressing for an injunction restraining the defendant from making any defamatory statements.

“The counsel for the defendant has made a statement that, till the next hearing, they will not make any further statements (against Sawant),” he said.

The case is scheduled for a hearing again on January 24.

Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, had addressed a press conference in Delhi where he allegedly made allegations against Sulakshana, the wife of CM Pramod Sawant.

Sulakshana Sawant filed a complaint in the civil court at Bicholim in North Goa. The ad-hoc civil judge heard the suit and issued a notice to Sanjay Singh, returnable on January 10, 2025.

Sulakshana Sawant, through her lawyers, requested the court to direct Singh to publish an apology, clarifying that the said defamatory video/article and interview were false, not based on facts, and to tender an unconditional apology, her complaint stated.

The complainant also urged the court to restrain Singh from making any public statements maligning her through an injunction on social media or other platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
