VASCO: Taking serious note of the ongoing garbage menace faced by almost all the Panchayats under Mormugao Taluka, the Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Saturday worked out a solution by which Mormugao Municipal Council(MMC) would accept garbage collected from neighbouring Chicalim and Chicolna-Bogmalo Panchayats and in lieu of the same the Chicalim Panchayat would handover it’s unused 7 cubic meter compactor to MMC.
According to Godinho Goa is still grappling with garbage issue and except for one scientific plant at Saligao, others parts of Goa is grappling for a permanent solution for a clean and green Goa. “As such in mormugao also we are struggling and whatever solutions we have is for the time being. As one such solution I have suggested that the Compactor which is in the possession of Chicalim Panchayat is unutilised much would be handed over to Mormugao Municipality as they are short of one such compactor and in lieu of that MMC should lift the garbage from Chicalim and Bogmalo Panchayat,”Godinho said
“Further also we will assist the Panchayats and Municipality by speeding up the proposal of third garbage treatment plant at Verna. We will request the Chief Minister to see that this happens on topmost priority because due to garbage near the airport, there have been incidents of bid hits in recent parts,” he told
Meanwhile it is reliably learnt that the Mormugao Municipality would place Godinho’s proposal during the forthcoming council meeting which would be held on Monday.
