Panaji: Goa’s Urban Development minister Milind Naik on Wednesday tendered his resignation from the state cabinet after being embroiled in the controversy over sexual exploitation of a woman.
Chief Minister’s office on Wednesday evening informed the media that Naik has tendered his resignation to ensure a free and fair probe.
CMO tweeted “Milind Naik has tendered his resignation as Minister in Government of Goa, to ensure a free and fair probe, which has been accepted and sent to the Hon’ble Governor.”
Congress Goa chief Girish Chodankar on Wednesday had named Naik as being involved in sexual exploitation of a woman by misusing his power as a cabinet member.
He had demanded that Sawant should sack the minister and police should initiate probe into the allegations against him.
A fortnight back, Chodankar had first time raised the issue without naming the minister. He had given 15 days’ time for the chief minister to sack the minister.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant had asked Chodankar to name the minister and also provide complaint filed by the victim against the minister.
After Wednesday’s disclosure by Chodankar, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President Sankalp Amonkar had also filed a formal complaint with police against the minister.
Later, Amonkar had addressed a press conference releasing the audio conversation between the victim and the minister.
