Calangute: A day after former Calangute MLA Joseph Sequeira alleged involvement of MLA and Solid Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo in the drug trade, the latter has said that charges were politically motivated.
“I have defeated Joseph in the election. It is not new that Joseph has been speaking this way against me. He has been doing it since long,” Lobo said.
The MLA said that Joseph has also involved Calangute PI into the politically motivated press conference when the reality is that the inspector has been conducting drugs raids in the area.
“During last two and half years, the maximum raids are conducted in Calangute area,” he said.
Lobo said that Vilanova Lobo, whose wife is a panch in Calangute Panchayat, has cooperated with Narcotics Control Bureau when his driver (F Ahmad) was allegedly involved in the drugs trade.
The MLA said that Lobo was not in the know about the conduct of his driver and that is why when NCB team arrived, he allowed his entire restaurant to be searched.
The minister said that he has asked Calangute police to conduct parallel inquiry into the allegation against the driver and his links, if any, to the drugs trade.
Lobo said that the allegations against him were totally poitically motivated and would not do such thing to his rivals.
“I will not say that Joseph Sequeira is involved in selling drugs or Rohan Khaunte is selling drugs, as I know they are not doing it,” he said.
