Mapusa: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party on Saturday declared their support to Congress candidate in Mapusa Assembly Constituency, where by-elections for the seat are scheduled on April 23.
MGP Mapusa Block President Vinod Fadke told reporters that the party is supporting Congress candidate Sudhir Kandolkar in Mapusa Assembly constituency.
The seat for Mapusa has been vacant after the death of sitting BJP MLA Francis D’Souza. Amit Shah-led party has fielded Joshua D’Souza, son of Francis, on its ticket in Mapusa Assembly segment.
Fadke told reporters on Saturday that since the party is not fielding its own candidate, they have decided to support Kandolkar, who is efficient and winnable candidate.
“We will work full time for Kandolkar’s victory in this constituency,” he said.
When contacted, senior MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar said that the party had given the right to Mapusa Block to decide whom they should support in Mapusa Assembly constituency.
Interestingly, MGP President Dipak Dhavalikar is contesting against Congress candidate Mahadev Naik for Shiroda by-elections. BJP has fielded Subhash Shirodkar in Shiroda Assembly Constituency.
