Panaji: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in his address to the state on ‘Goa Revolution Day’ today said that the fight against colonization is far from over. It is ironical that chief minister of the state which was liberated more than 50 years ago makes such a confession on the day like “Revolution Day.”
This is what Sena spokesman Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik has said in a press note:
Sena feels that MGP, Congress and BJP, which ruled Goa after liberation till date, are responsible for this continued ghost of colonization, which has been hovering around Goa and Goans.
The issue like Mayem evacuee property could have been solved within no time, but all the chief ministers and the governments after Liberation never bothered to give any thought to it.
Parrikar has been giving deadlines after deadlines over the issue, promising people to give back their land which is declared as an evacuee property. Goa has witnessed how Parrikar has been playing to the gallery over this issue.
It is unfortunate that our freedom fighters and people from Mayem have to remind Parrikar about this basic issue. Today once again Parrikar made a promise to solve it.
The era of oppression unleashed by Portuguese is over long back.
We are now in liberated Goa and Independent India. But we still see the traits of colonization and slavery being practiced in the State.
It was during Portuguese time that people used to complaint about police atrocities against those who used to stand for truth. Unfortunately, in liberated Goa, the trend continues.
The recent spate of attacks on citizens by Sanguem police inspector Sagar Ekoskar is nothing less than being in a colonial rule, where ordinary citizens are treated like slavery.
When Parrikar speaks of fight against colonization, he should also address this trend in police department and get away the protection awarded to Ekoskar by his seniors.
Sena appeals the chief minister to come clear on what exactly he meant when he said that the fight against colonization is yet to be over and he also should tell us what are the steps that he would be initiating to get “complete liberation” to Goa.
