Margao: Maina Curtorim police will be finally adding section of murder to the case related to death of labourer Kanhaiyakumar Mondal, which was being investigated as hit-and-run case till date.
Police sources stated that senior police officials have ordered that the inquiry be conducted as a murder in connection with the death, after postmortem report pointed out that the deceased was “dead before truck ran over him.”
The multiple stab injuries on his neck and abdomen are also pointing out towards the suspected murder in this case.
HISTORY OF THE CASE
For those who are not privy to the history of this case, we would like to recall. Mondal’s body was found lying in a pool of blood at Loutolim highway, on the way to Verna IDC.
He was run over by a truck. Mondal was earlier detained by Ponda police after he was found creating trouble at Ponda bus stand. Ponda police had dropped him at Loutolim in the dead end of the night. There was no dairy marked about his detention.
Three policemen were suspended for their act. The suspicions are now being raised that this could be a case of custodial killing.
BACK TO SATURDAY
Maina Curtorim Police sub inspector Veronica Coutinho is investigating this case. Sources stated that all the policemen who dropped Mondal at Loutolim would be questioned by the investigating officer and their statement would be recorded.
Police will now have to reach to the missing link between what happened between the time when truck ran over him and when police dropped him. The angle of custodial death is also being probed by the police.
RELATIVES OF DECEASED
The investigation also has to be done who made all the relatives of the deceased leave the state by Goa Express train after final rites were conducted on his body at Ponda. The statement of relatives is crucial. The relatives also will file a formal complaint of murder in this case.
