Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday that the state government will bring to the notice of Supreme court, violations of order by Karnataka at proposed Kalsa-Bhanduri project on Mahadayi river.
The special leave petition filed by Goa over the award given by Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal would be heard in July.
“We have already started preparing to present our case before SC in July. We will bring to the notice of SC, the violations by Karnataka at proposed Kalsa-Bhanduri project on Mahadayi river,” Sawant told reporters in Panaji.
The SC through its order in the year 2014 had stayed any work on the proposed dam site. Union Jal Shakti ministry had notified the award given by water tribunal after which Karnataka has decided to go ahead with the project.
The chief minister said that Goa government would file applications before various ministries including Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change objecting for granting of any permission for Karnataka to proceed with the work at Kalsa-Bhanduri project.
The opposition parties in Goa have been criticizing Sawant-led government for its failure to protect Mahadayi river.
