Sanguem : Massive drive was carried out by the Department of Legal Metrology in Sanguem taluka for the inspection of weights & measures and packaged commodities under the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The Department informed that 16,176 packages of ‘7 up’ bottles of 1.25 litres worth 8.5 lakhs were seized for not bearing the name and complete address of the customer care which is in violation of the provision of said act.
This drive was carried out by shri Vikas V. Kandolakar, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Sanguem, Goa, under the supervision of Shri Nitin P. Purushan, Assistant controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao, Goa and Smt ,Ranjan M. Borkar, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone II, Curchorem, Goa and assisted by Shri Samir C. Khanapurkar and Shri Pascoal Vaz.
The department through the press note wished to inform all the consumers that before buying any packaged commodity, they should check the below mentioned mandatory declaration such as name and complete address of the Manufacturer/packer/importer, common generic name, country of origin, month and year of manufacture/pre-packing date/import date, MRP and name and complete address of the person and the office which can be contacted in case of a consumer complaint.
