Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Monday said that while on one side we are felicitating the doctors for serving us during COVID-19 crisis, at the same time, police are taking no action against the influential accused involved in assaulting a Porvorim-based doctor.
Khaunte said that the accused might be related to Union Minister or someone from BJP mandal but he should face the law for assaulting the doctor.
Dr Amol Tilve, working with a private hospital at Porvorim, had alleged that he was assaulted by a family member of the patient on Friday.
“Porvorim police station has become saffronised. There are so many examples where police have acted in a haste but here we see police not taking action despite complaint being filed and FIR lodged,” he said.
Khaunte said that he was in touch with the doctor, who was assaulted by a family member of the patient.
“Whatever may be the circumstances, but no one has a right to assault other person. I have to see what action CM takes specially when he himself is a doctor.”
Khaunte said that it is unfortunate that the Indian Medical Association doctors had to march to Porvorim police station to demand action. “I will be personally meeting SP North tomorrow to follow up the matter,” he added.
Khaunte said that the accused should not be protected though he may be related to Union Minister or member of any BJP mandal.
