Harassment by neighbours, property matters highlights the cases filed before Goa Women’s Commission

Porvorim: Goa State Women’s Commission had received 154 cases of women in distress during the calendar year 2023, while till date in this year, 29 cases are filed, the House was told.

The data tabled by State Women and Child Development Department minister Vishwajit Rane on the floor of the House mentions that majority of these cases are related to harassment by neighbours or Property Matters.

Rane has submitted that total 116 cases of women in distress was reported with the commission in the year 2020, followed by 166 cases in 2021, 88 cases in 2022, 154 cases in 2023 and 29 cases till date in 2024.

The maximum number of these cases are related to harassment by neighbours or related to property matters.

In the year 2020, 39 such cases were reported while 68 were reported in 2021, 27 in 2022, 52 in 2023 and nine in 2024 till date, the reply reads.

The commission has also been receiving cases related to extra marital affairs or divorce related.

As per the data, 13 such cases were reported in 2020, 15 in 2021, six in 2022, 12 in 2023 and one till date in 2024.

Rane said that the commission is also receiving cases related to Harassment of senior citizens/parents.

As per the data, 12 such cases were registered in 2020, nine in 2021, five in 2022, ten in 2023 and two in 2024 till date.
