Panaji: State’s lone Zoo at Bondla would be undergoing a major overhaul with State-run Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) planning to take up the upgradation project on lines with similar facility at Singapore, a senior functionary said on Saturday.

Bondla zoo is located in North Goa, 40 kms away from here, inside the wildlife sanctuary. GTDC Chairman Dayanand Sopte said that the zoo will have a facelift with an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.

“Bondla Zoo is currently under control of State Forest Department. I have had meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who has assured that Forest Department will give No Objection Certificate for upgradation of the zoo,” he said.

He said that the Zoo would be developed on lines with the one at Singapore so that it becomes a major tourist attraction. “We will take up the development work keeping in mind the laws related to the wildlife sanctuary and other forest related laws,” Sopte said.

Speaking further, Sopte said GTDC  esolved to complete all the ongoing projects under Swadesh Darshan scheme, within stipulated time period.

He said that the projects would be completed within the deadline, so that the state can pitch for more such facilities.

Goa has undertaken beautification of its three beaches under the funding of Swadesh Darshan scheme.
