Govt looks at containment zones to get the plasma required to treat active covid patients

Panaji: Goa government is eyeing at the containment zones in the state to encourage the plasma donation drive to treat COVID19 positive patients, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.

Rane told reporters that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant would be calling for a meeting of all the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) next week, in whose constituency, the containment zones were notified, to involve them in plasma donation drive.

The minister said that the MLAs, cutting across the party lines, would be asked to encourage people in the containment zone, who have recovered from the infection, to come ahead and donate the plasma.

“Plasma Therapy is one of the best solution to treat COVID-19. The time has come for the COVID-19 patients to be a Covid saviour,” he said.

Rane said that the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has set up a facility to derive plasma from the blood of the recovered patient, which is used to treat the positive people.

“We will also talk to police department personnels and people from health sector who have recovered from COVID19 to come ahead and donate plasma,” he said.

The minister said that the state government will also be working with NGOs and media to encourage people to come forward and join plasma donation drive.
