Panaji: Minister for Law and Judiciary Francis D’Souza today told House that Government intends to have a special status for Goa and the same is pending before Central government.

“Government intends to have a Special Status for Goa and it is making necessary efforts in the matter with the Central Government,” D’Souza said in a written reply tabled on the Floor of the House.

Congress MLA Jennifer Monserrate had raised the question.

“Assembly passed the resolution for grant of Special Status to Goa on the lines of Special Status granted to the State of Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal under Article 371 or any other provision of the Constitution of India for regulating ownership and transfer of land in order to conserve limited resources available for development and to ensure that the State preserves its unique identity,” Minister said.

“The resolution passed in the Goa Legislative Assembly has been forwarded to the Union Government for consideration. And it is currently pending,” he said.
