Panaji: Shiv Sena Goa Spokesman Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik has demanded that State government should not allow Electronic Dance Music festival this year, which would be the first step to clean the tourism from the menace of drugs.
This is what she has said in a press note released here: Sena has also demands that special squad under Crime Branch or CBI should be formed to investigate the nexus between local police and drug paddlers.
Sena has been vocal in the past about the increasing drug menace in the coastal belt like Calangute, Anjuna and Pernem due to utter failure of local police stations to curb it.
The police station in-charges who have been posted there for more than a year are seen booking narcotics cases of smaller quantity while they have failed to nab the kingpins.
Sena is against narco-tourism and any attempt of the local police inspector to shield them. As a part of our demand, we want that the EDM festival which is promoted in the name of tourism should not be allowed.
Going by the figures provided by Tourism department, Goa has been receiving 6 million tourist. For the population of 1.5 million, 6 million is a big number to handle due to inadequate infrastructure.
State police department and also traffic cell is kept busy during the entire week when EDM is held. Also the organizers of the festivals fail to pay the revenue to the State government.
We demand that EDM should not be allowed and government should form a special squad under crime branch to clean up the beaches of Calangute, Anjuna and Pernem from the drug menace.
Sena has been raising this issue on various forums and would soon be giving memorandum to agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation urging them to investigate into the deadly nexus between policemen and drug paddlers which has been fostering this menace in the coastal belt.
