Panaji: Ports Minister   Michael Lobo on Monday said that the shutdown of night life in the coastal state should continue till the COVID-19 infection in the country comes under control.

Speaking to reporters, Lobo also  said that it will take another year for the economy to come back to the track considering the impact of COVID-19.

“Goa is a world famous destination for its night life. It has been shut down and I feel that, it should continue to be closed till COVID-19 situation in the country is under control,”  he said.

The minister said “economy of the state is important, but more important is lives of the people. We have seen our close friends, who died due to COVID19. We have to be very careful.”

“Once we see that COVID-19 cases, across India, are in control, the economic activity can start,” he said.

Lobo suggested that the tourism should start in a phased manner with those activities which are safe from spreading the COVID-19       should open up first.

“Even when we start hotels, the guests should be carrying covid negative certificate and abide by all the protocols,” he added.

Lobo said that the COVID-19 situation is getting under control in Goa while deaths will continue showing up in the daily charts as many people are currently on ventilator.
