Panaji: Amidst ongoing Coronavirus scare, Goa government will be setting its own virology lab at Goa medical college and hospital on March 27.
Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the laboratory would be ready by March 27 for which the equipments are already procured by GMCH.
“ I am happy to announce the setting up of Virology Lab at GMC, which has been possible with the help of the Central Government,” he said. “We have procured the PCR machine through the Malaria Control Center, through which real-time testing for COVID 19 will be introduced in a couple of days using the PCR technology,” he added.
Rane said that a team of doctors would be sent for training at National Institute of Virology in Pune, who will be posted at the laboratory.
Meanwhile, Rane said that the state government is in the process of procuring hundred additional ventilators to ensure that we are medically well equipped.
“Considering worldwide shortage of ventilators, we are in the process of procuring close to 100 additional ventilators to ensure we are medically well equipped,” he said.
“I would like to reiterate the citizens to stay indoors while frontline health workers do their best to serve the state,” he added.
