Panaji: The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) will do their duties wearing black arm bands from Wednesday onwards in solidarity with the Resident  doctors across the nation.

Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has called for the  nationwide strike of OPD service in demand of expediting the NEET PG 2021 counseling as well as admission process.

GARD President Dr Pratik Sawant said that they had given notice to the Medical Superintendent of Goa Medical College to withdraw routine services from Out Patient Department indefinitely from December 01 onwards.

He said that despite the prior notice, State government has invoked Essential Services Management Act from Tuesday onwards.

The GARD has decided not to go ahead with the strike of the routine services from OPD but instead work with the black arm band as a mark of protest.

Sawant said that GARD stands disheartened by the lack of support from the government and authorities who have invoked ESMA.

He pointed out that the GARD had called “only for withdrawal of OPD services, after prior intimation. The emergency services of any kind by the Residents, be it ward, casualty or any other emergency would not have been hampered.”

Sawant said that the GARD will  also hold demonstration of solidarity and a night vigil after working hours after having duly performing their regular duties.

“This is to mark our discontent regarding suppression of Basic Human Rights,” the GARD has said.
