Panaji: Goa government told the House that state appointed contractor has been collecting e-waste from 15 village panchayats across Goa.
As per the government record, there are 189 village panchayats across the State.
State waste management minister Michael Lobo, in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House, has mentioned that Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) they have signed a MoU with M/s. Karo Sambhav Pvt. Ltd. for undertaking awareness creation and collection of E-waste across the State of Goa.
“M/s. Karo Sambhav Pvt. Ltd. had undertaken E-Waste collection drives in 15 Village Panchayats across the State of Goa and the E-Waste was collected as per the MoU,” he said.
Lobo said “at some Village Panchayts, however, tube-lights were not collected due to storage space constraints.”
He said that as per the information provided by Goa Waste Management Corporation, if any Village Panchayat makes a request, E-Waste will be collected accordingly. Tube lights will be collected once the facility for E-waste Management at Pissurlem in Sattari taluka is operational.
Lobo said that the GWMC has selected a contractor/ Concessionaire CAM Industrial Services through Quality-Cum Cost Based system via E-tendering process on Public Private Partnership basis for “Selection of a service provider to Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer an E-waste Management Facility at Pissurlem Goa” for a period of 15 years.
