Panaji: Goa police on Thursday interrogated five persons, including four from the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), after receiving intelligence inputs about potential disturbances during the ongoing decennial exposition of relics of St. Francis Xavier.
A senior police officer confirmed that the four members of PFI, identified as Yasin Nalur, Mohammed Haveri, Imran Illyas, and Shaikh Rauf, all from South Goa, were interrogated. According to the officer, the intelligence report indicated a likelihood of PFI members or their associates attempting to disrupt the peace and tranquility in Goa concerning the ongoing exposition of the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier.
“Further, they have been produced before the Magistrate in Margao under Chapter Proceedings to bind them over for their good behavior,” he said.
In a related development, one Altaf Sandi, from Ponda in South Goa, who is associated with the organization Goa Youth Foundation, was also interrogated based on similar intelligence inputs. He has been produced before the Magistrate in Ponda under Chapter Proceedings u/s 126 BNSS to bind him over for his good behavior, the officer added.
