Panaji: The Anti-Corruption Branch of Goa Police on Thursday filed a First Information Report against the former Managing Director of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited for misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 82.87 lakhs.
Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and also under the BNS Act for forgery, cheating, and misappropriation of funds.
A senior police official said that the accused who was then Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (smart city project) committed the offences between April 01, 2018, to September 30, 2020.
He said that the offense against him was booked after a high-level committee constituted to investigate the alleged irregularities by him, submitted its report to the state government.
The police complaint filed by then North Goa Collector Mamu Hage mentions that the accused incurred unauthorised expenditure for his own advantage and also used the internet banking facility.
The accused also appointed multiple consultants for the same list of works, the complaint mentions.
Chaudhuri’s conduct created several problems, delays and irregularities in Rs 200 crore project. He is also accused of not paying the bills of the contractors despite the project being complete.
In yet another accusation against him, Chaudhuri allegedly was involved in the several irregularities in the office involving the pattern of staffing and inward and outward of the correspondences.
The complaint also mentions that the accused was involved in excess withdrawal of salary by manipulating the Board meeting minutes, irregular expenditure through credit card and fraudulently fabricating the documents by forging the signature of the officials of IPSCDL.
