Panaji:  In view of the grave situation we are in with regards to the pandemic of the coronavirus, the Government along with the Education Dept should take a decision and exempt teachers from working, Congress Goa spokesman Trajano D’Mello said.

“Since classes and exams are cancelled there should be other arrangements made for teachers to complete their remaining work. Online submission of assessments and other work should be allowed in these circumstances,” he added.

“Teachers also have families which may comprise of young children and elderly family members. Every time they step out of their houses there is a risk,” the congress leader said.

“Even though authorities claim that there is no community transmission in India, we shouldn’t be waiting for a disaster to take place when things get out of control and then request teachers and general population to self isolate. By then it will be too late. After what has happened in Europe and the rest of the world, we in India still have a chance to contain this virus. But for that to happen strict measures have to be taken immediately.”

“The Govt should also provide various options for other Govt staff to work from isolated places or online working for those whose physical presence is not needed. Secondly Govt should take all precautions for the safety of Govt staff whose services/presence are a must.”

The Government of India is putting on a good show that they’re in control of the situation, but that’s all it is, a good show. We are in the crucial stages of the infection in India and only time will tell if enough was done. Considering our population and especially the large numbers in poverty we as a nation have to be extremely cautious.
