Porvorim: Goa Forward Party President and TCP minister Vijai Sardesai has ruled out the possibility of dissolving State Legislative Assembly stating that “nobody can afford election at this time.”
Sardesai talking to reporters emerging from State Cabinet meeting pointed out to the apprehensions raised by Opposition Congress party that the Assembly would be dissolved.
“Nobody can afford to have election in the State at this time, not even BJP.
“I go by logic and facts that BJP cannot afford election. So why would CM afford election? And the situation in which he is in why would be afford election?,” he shot back.
Sardesai, however, said that during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, he has asked CM to make any senior functionary from BJP to clarify that they are not going for dissolution.
Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, after chairing the Congress Legislative Party meeting on Wednesday, had claimed that the ruling coalition will go for dissolution of the House, after the Assembly session which is scheduled to be held from January 29.
“Dissolution is something which is contemplated when things are unmanageable from the point of political stability. When the government is there at the centre and same government in the state, there is no reason for dissolution,” he said.
“We had formed this government tto ensure that the drive of development which is going on should not be stopped, and we have seen money is coming from the centre for the developmental projects,” he said.
Sardesai said that he is convinced that BJP will not go for dissolution of the House. “Finally it is what suits the ruling coalition. In this situation, they may be not in a position to want the election,” he said.
“But finally two plus two is not four in politics. So that slight doubt that exists because of the statement by Leader of Opposition, the benefit of the doubt has to be given and it should be clarified,” he said.
Sardesai said that the principal ruling party (BJP) has to clarify the doubt expressed by Opposition about the dissolution.
“ As the ruling party that heads the coalition, I think BJP has to clarify. I have asked CM that senior functionary of the party has to clarify,” he said.
“The main opposition has made a major charge. The charge is aimed at instilling a sense of instability over the government,” the minister added.
In the same breathe, Sardesai clarified that the CM has been negating the possibility of dissolution.
“Why the congress made the statement? Don’t know but the congress wants dissolution. Congress party organization is led by people who are unelectable,” he alleged.
“They want to pre-pone the season of ticket selling. There is no other reason,” he said.
“MLAs don’t want dissolution. Everybody gets elected for particular term and they set targets. Even a person who is considered as powerful like would want to have more achievement in the constituency,” he added.
