Panaji: Goa Crime Branch on Sunday arrested ant-Citizeship Amendment Act (CAA) leader Ramakrishna Jalmi over his utterances during a rally in South Goa on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Pankaj Kumar said that Jalmi has been arrested under section 295 (A) and 153 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for hurting religious sentiments through his utterances.
Jalmi was one of the speaker during anti-CAA rally held on Saturday at Benaulim village in South Goa.
“He was arrested for derogatory utterances,” Kumar said.
The rally was organised by various organizations including Goa church backed Centre for Social Peace and Justice (CSJP).
The video which has been circulated on social media shows Jalmi uttering derogatory words against Lord Parshuram, who has been considered as the creator of Goa.
Incidently, Benaulim village is named after Parusharam as mythologically it is said that the Sage shot arrow in the air asking Sea to rescind. The arrow fell in the village which was later named as ‘Benaulim.”
