Panaji : Covid-19 vaccination for all above 18 years of age was made available from May 1. This was seen as a major step in controlling the second wave of Covid-19.
Why is vaccination not provided to children who are the usual target ?
According to the Ministry of Health and Family welfare “COVID-19 affects all age groups; however, morbidity & mortality is several times higher in adults particularly in those above the age of 50 years. Children have either asymptomatic or mild infection.”
According to Dr Gagandeep Kang who is a virologist and a professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Sciences at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, “Drinking alcohol in excess quantities also leads to inflammation. But, there is no data to show that drinking alcohol after you have been vaccinated reduces the effectiveness of the vaccine.”
Do I need to use the mask/other COVID-19 appropriate precautions after receiving the vaccine?
Ministry of Health and Family welfare answers this question in affirmative, “it is absolutely necessary that everyone who has received the COVID-19 vaccine should continue to follow the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour i.e., mask, do gaj ki doori and hand sanitization to protect themselves and those around from spreading the infection”
