Panaji: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Saturday appealed Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene in the state government’s initiatives to curb spread of COVID-19 claiming that Chief minister Pramod Sawant, though with good intentions, has failed to handle the situation.
AAP Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes, in a letter to the Governor, said that the inconsistencies in what is happening at the level of the government and the officials at the ground level are so glaring that it is time you intervene by calling the CM to give him guidance.
“The CM may be having the best of intentions, but at this juncture needs guidance and insulation from demands of his political party,” he said.
In the letter, Gomes has written “If you have noticed, whatever is being uttered by the CM, has no relevance as the officials at the level of the collectorate and police stations act differently than what is proclaimed by the CM all because the decisions change even before they reach them.”
Gomes pointed out that the expectation that volunteers who had come forward after announcement by the CM, would be issued with passes is belied, as 48 hours after the announcement, the CM has come forward with another set of announcements that Panchas , Councillors and MLAs will organise volunteers leaving the large number of bonafide volunteers on the sidelines.
“This is an unfortunate situation as the government action has now been seen as politically coloured. How can one expect these persons with their allegiance to political masters to work without the neutrality expected?,” he questioned.
AAP has said that the competency of the ministers in Pramod Sawant-led cabinet to handle this kind of situation is low.
“If this was a Sunburn festival, wine or liquor festival, carnival or Shimo celebrations , we would not have appealed to you for anything as the men in the government would fall head over heels to accomplish the tasks with ease,” he said.
AAP has told the Governor that it is the time that he should intervene in the matter with his experience in handling situations of this nature that require quick independent, enforceable decisions without loss of time as it is anticipated that more cases could surface in the near future.
