Porvorim: Congress legislative party which met today at Porvorim has demanded that the upcoming assembly session should be of 18 days, and not of 12.

Legislative party leader  Chandrakant Kavlekar said that the rules of the assembly are clear that when there are demands for grants being discussed on the floor of the House, the session has to be at least for 15 days.

Kavlekar said that the budget session of the Assembly had to be curtailed from 22 days to mere four days after chief minister Manohar Parrikar fell sick.

“When session was curtailed during the presentation of Budget, we had not objected because the chief minister was taken ill. But now he is back and has started working, so there is no reason to have short session,” he said.

The Congress wants to raise several issues like Greenfield airport at Mopa, curtailing of Coastal Regulation Zone from 200 metres to 50 metres through draft notification, drug menace in the State, Regional Plan and others.

“We need time to present these issues and expose government on the floor of the House. The session has to be held for 18 days,” he commented.
