Panaji: As the protest against undertaking of mega projects in Mollem gained momentum in the past two weeks, several celebrities like Randeep Hooda and people of prominence have joined the protest in their own way. Joining the bandwagon with other people of prominence is former union minister and senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
Ramesh in a twitter post on Monday took a dig at the prime minister. He termed the destruction of the two wildlife sanctuaries due to undertaking of the mega projects as ‘hypocrisy’.
“The PM has waxed eloquent on his love for nature while at the same time making moves to destroy the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. This is sheer hypocrisy. The green lungs of Goa must be saved. #SaveMollem,” Ramesh tweeted, extending his support to the ‘Save Mollem’ protest.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar also retweeted Ramesh’s post.
“Thank you @Jairam_Ramesh ji for your support to #OnlyGoalSayNoToCoal & #SaveMollemFromDestruction. The @INCGoa is committed to Protect the Identity of Goa & Environment & will continue to be the Voice of the People to Save our Motherland Goa,” Kamat wrote.
Earlier, actor Randeep Hooda had also taken to twitter to voice his opinion and stand for the people of Mollem. “Let’s stand with Goans protesting the proposed loss of 70k trees and destruction of biodiversity hub in Mollem a Tiger habitat for doubling the railway line to make Goa into a Coal transport hub instead. Why not go around the Eco sensitive zone?,” Hooda stated.
