Quepemn: With the number of COVID-19 cases on rise in Quepem, Congress leader Altone D’Costa along with his councillors have demanded lockdown till May 12.
D’Costa tweeted “people of Quepem demand complete lockdown till May 12 except for essential services to be open from 6 am till 11 am and Pharmacies be open as usual. There are no facilities even to transport positive patients or get back the dead people. We are in worst situation.”
“My new elected councillors sought help to sanitise the areas but there’s no help coming forward from Fire Department. Only lockdown is the solution to control the spread at present,” he said in another tweet through his handle.
In the recently held election, Altone has managed to win on four seats Alinda Lasrad, Nandita Prabhudesai, Lourdes Fernandes and Jacquina Dias defeating the nearest rival.
D’Costa said that the situation in Quepem is grim as the councillors want to take up the work of sanitisation but there is no help coming from the Fire department.
He said that if government is really serious about saving lives, there should be strict lockdown till May 12 with essential services open for few hours.
