Panaji: Congress party on Sunday demanded inquiry into the Pakistani link through National Investigation Agency (NIA) of the Naphtha laden ship which has run aground off-Goa coast.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar in a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought a high level inquiry into the entire episode of allowing this ship in Mormugao Port Trust in Goa.

In the letter, Chodankar has pointed out that Chief Minister has  categorically stated that the said Ship is  loaded with highly inflammable Naphtha which has originated from a Port in Pakistan and has travelled to India.

“It is unclear how and why the said Ship was given permission to enter the Mormugao Port Trust. It is also unclear under whose instructions the MPT allowed the Ship to enter the port area,” the Congress leader has said.

Chodankar alleged that the Chief Minister of Goa has failed to clarify about the Consignees and Consignors of the Cargo carried by the said Ship.

“The Chief Minister has conspicuously maintained complete silence over the actions to be initiated against those responsible for bringing such Ship to MPT,” Chodankar has mentioned in his letter.

Chodankar has demanded that operations be taken over by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and detailed investigations should be conducted in the epside through  Defence Intelligent Agency(DIA) and National Investigation Agency(NIA).

The Congress leader has also asked for Prime Minister’s immediate intervention to salvage the threat to the arising out of the unmanned stranded vessel.

Chodankar has said that there is a serious threat perception and an impending Ecological and Environmental disaster to the State of Goa due to a unmanned stranded Ship.

He has said that CM has been briefing the media with conflicting and confusing statements about the said stranded Ship and as such  has created fear and anxiety in the minds of the public at large  about the likely calamity which may occur by an  explosion or leakage in the said stranded Ship.

Chodankar has further mentioned in the letter that the Chief Minister for mysterious reasons  time and again changes his statements  and has  failed to fix the responsibilities almost after 15 days since the said unmanned stranded Ship was located off MPT Port.
