Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched 112 emergency number service for the state, which is integrated platform for police, fire and medical emergencies.
After inaugurating the service, Sawant said that in the first phase, the service will cover only police while fire and medical services would be added to it in the second phase.
The chief minister said that the service has been launched with the help of Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The service will replace traditional 100 number, which was used to reach out to the police in emergencies.
He said that the service will provide response even to the remotest places.
Two centers, one at Panaji and another at Margao, has been established as a part of this service.
Sawant said that the crime is expected to be reduced after launch of this service as the response time will be decreasing drastically.
The chief minister said that at present, North and South District has ten vehicles each connected to this service, while number of vehicles would be increased in the days to come.
