Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte has alleged that there is clear evidence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant protecting ousted Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar by delaying the election to appoint the new Sarpanch.
He said that the Chief Minister by shielding the ex-Sarpanch, who is involved in land grabs and forgeries, is clearly indicating his own interest in such deeds.
Khaunte pointed out that Director of Panchayat, who received the file passing no confidence motion against Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar on Wednesday afternoon, was sitting over it till Friday.
“There is every possibility that Chief Minister may have called the Director of Panchayat asking her to delay the election for new Sarpanch, so that they get time to intimidate, threaten or buy out the panch members.”
“We are ready for any eventuality now. There may be false cases filed against the panch members, if they don’t bog down to the pressures. Nothing more can be expected from such a government,” he said.
Khaunte said that there has been attempts to scuttle the no confidence motion against corrupt Sarpanch from first day onwards, when there was delay in holding meeting to discuss the motion.
“It took 15 days to call for a meeting and now the election for new Sarpanch has been delayed. They may try to take benefit of the law that the election can be held within 60 days. I am told that it is what that they are thinking to do,” he said.
Khaunte said that people are watching the conduct of the government and its protection to the land grabber and fraud persons.
“Chief minister has to understand that whatever protection he may give to the corrupt persons, he will have to answer it during the next five years,” he said.
Khaunte pointed out that panch members are united and they have decided to hold corner meetings across Socorro panchayat.
“I am with the panch members and we will ensure that illegalities are driven out of Succoro in the interest of the people.”
