Porvorim: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday urged Speaker of Goa legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar to appoint a translator in the House after one of the legislator complained that he could not understand the conversation in Marathi between two of his colleagues.
The issue of language was raised during the Question Hour when State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar started conversing on the floor of the House in Marathi.
NCP MLA Churchill Alemao took objection claiming that he does not understand the language and hence Speaker should provide the translator so that he can also participate in it.
Intervening in the discussion, chief minister Pramod Sawant urged the Speaker to appoint translator before next session of the Assembly. “We are speaking in Hindi, Marathi, English and you may have some members soon talking in Kannada,” he said.
“You never know, the day will come when we will have people speaking Kannada here,” he said.
