Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Wednesday demanded that the state borders be sealed except for essential commodities in the wake of possible Covid-19 spread.
GFP Chief Vijai Sardesai also demanded that upcoming Zilla Panchayat election be postponed indefinite as state is already adopting social distancing as a measure to curb spread of the virus.
The Zilla Panchayat elections in the state are scheduled on March 22.
“Goa government has already suggested measures including social distancing to ensure that the Coronavirus does not spread in the state,” Sardesai said.
“Even though the intention of government is the best, the implementation of it is not seen to be effective,” he said adding that state has porous surveillance.
“Public health should be primary concern for all. We should adopt maximum measures. In the public interest, I am appealing to state government to seal off our boundries. If we do that we will prevent people coming in the state and infecting the Goans,” he said.
“Less number of confirmed cases should not be misconstrued as non prevelance of virus in Goa,” he said.
“We have to seal our borders with exception of essential commodities an our health facility like GMCH is not overburdened and collapsed,” he said.
Sardesai also questioned whether State election commission is in the position to have social distancing during polling process.
“If they are not then we should indefinitely postpone Zilla election,” he demanded.
