Mandrem: The proposed alliance between BJP and MGP for the next Assembly election is likely to deal a death blow to the political career of Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar.
Arolkar, who had been elected on the MGP ticket from this constituency in the 2022 election, is currently having differences with his own party bosses, which has made him unwanted in the setup.
MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar’s opening of a discussion on the alliance with BJP for the next election will come as bad news for Arolkar, considering the fact that Dhavalikar-led party will not bargain for the Mandrem seat for him due to his equations with the party.
Additionally, Mandrem has BJP veterans, including Dayanand Sopte, who has been gaining ground in the constituency. Sopte’s name was also considered for the post of BJP Goa President.
While BJP’s outgoing Goa President, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, has neither accepted nor denied the alliance, there is every likelihood that both parties will go for the election together to avoid splitting the vote.
