Old Goa: In a bizarre move, Carambolim Panchayat on Saturday took off the board informing about free wi-fi service initiated by Zilla Panchayat member Siddesh Naik, without giving any reason.
Naik said that he had applied for the board, officially with the panchayat, on June 08, 2021, giving it a legal status. But the board was removed by panchayat, without informing Naik.
The ZP member as a part of his social service initiative has provided wifi service to the people of Carambolim, Cumbharjua, Old Goa and Corlim, which is benefitting several hundred students, who are currently taking online classes.
“The issue of poor internet connectivity was solved after we launched this service. There are several students who are taking benefit of it,” he said.
Naik knows no reason why board is removed but has said that the free wi-fi service continues.
“I don’t know whether there is a political reason behind it or not. But if Panchayat had to tell me the reason, it would have helped me,” he said pointing out that there are several “illegal hoardings” which are standing tall all across the panchayat jurisdiction, which are never touched by them.
