Panaji: State Government today exempted small shops, establishments, temporary structures, and beach shacks upto 50 sq mtrs area from mandatory installation of fire extinguisher.
Government through a notification issued in May had made installation of fire extinguisher mandatory for all the establishments failing which authorities were directed not to issue licences. The Panjim hotel and traders association had raised strong objection to the same.
As such, through a fresh notification issued by Home department today, Government has granted them exemption.
“After intervention by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, shops and establishment below 50 sq mtrs and beach shacks have been exempted from mandatory installation of fire extinguisher,” CMO said.
