Panaji : Bhartiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) protested today evening at Gandhi Chowk Mapusa. They have rekindled their agitation over Medium of Instruction and demanded that local languages should be given priority while giving grant in aid.
BBSM has been of the opinion that local languages should flourish in Goa. “According to Central Government a state shall have one medical and one engineering college in local language but the government continues to favour english language over local language, even constitution mandates that Grant shall not be given to primary English language institutions” alleged BBSM.
“The committee constituted by late Manohar Parrikar on MOI issue also found that majority of institutions support local language moreover, Education Minister Smriti Irani had asked Village Panchayats accross India to hold meetings to implement New Education Policy, such 191 meetings were held in Goa out of which 171 Panchayats decided that Primary education should be in local language and these educational institutions should get grants” said Subhash Velingkar. Bhaskar Naik committee’s report also suggests that majority of population wants grants for local language institutions added Velingkar
BBSM has warned the government that if their demands are not fulfilled they will campaign against the current MLAs.
BBSM always brings this MOI on the election year only. This is the third in a row I am seeing this agitation on the election year. After election, BBSM never demanded or did agitation for MOI. Since 15 years this same topic with BBSM. First they should stop using English language while writing letters in Computers and sending messages from mobiles. They should walk the talk. First they should stop their children and grand children from learning English.
