Panaji: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Sunday demanded that State government should initiate CSIR-NIO to conduct environmental impact assessment due to stranded Naphtha laden ship off Goa coast.
“State government should appoint CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography to conduct study on the environmental impact due to the ship which has been stranded since last fortnight,” Khaunte said.
He said that State Port minister Michael Lobo has been making irresponsible statements on the issue, which is exposing the state government every passing day on their laxity to handle the possible disaster that may arise due to the vessel.
“Two days after I raised the voice, Lobo visited the ship. The minister has all the time to visit Sonsodo by crossing two bridges, but he could not cross one bridge and visit the ship,” the former minister said.
Khaunte was talking to reporters after opening his extension office in Succoro area on Sunday.
Talking about the controversy surrounding purchase of land by CM at Dodamarg, the Independent MLA said that Sawant has been doing catwalk of exposures.
“The new exposure is about land at Dodamarg. The way he has been treating Mahadayi issue, I doubt whether he has land upstream in Karnataka,” Khaunte said.
