Panaji: Abhijit Desai, the deputy Sarpanch of Netravali Panchayat, has sworn in affidavit before Bombay High Court at Goa that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar pressurized police to file FIR booking him of outraging modesty of a woman political leader.

Desai has filed a petition before the High Court challenging FIR filed against him by Crime Branch for outraging modesty of Shiv Sena’s Goa Unit Vice President Rakhi Naik Prabhudesai.

In an affidavit filed before the High Court this week, Desai has said that Naik had filed complaint against him accusing of posting a defamatory post on the Facebook with copy marked to the Chief Minister.

“The complaint bear no date. However, it was apparently inwarded in the office of the chief minister on July 14, 2018 and Chief Minister marked the same to SP (Superintendent of Police), Cyber Crime “for appropriate action” on July 17, 2018,” Desai has said in his affidavit.

“The complaint was thereafter marked to the Office of the Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) and finally forwarded to the Inspector Cyber Crime cell who without conducting any inquiry and apparently under pressure of the direction of the Chief minister, rushed to register the FIR under sections 500, 509 of IPC, wherein the petitioner (Desai) was named as an accused,” he said.

Cyber Crime Cell had filed FIR against Desai on July 19, 2018.

The petitioner has said that he has been doing “lot of social work and this has generated lot of jealousy and rivalry from people who do not desire to see the success of the petitioner.”

He also said that Naik, who is vice president of Shiv Sena in Goa, and his political rival has been filing several complaints against the petitioner and has also managed to get some other FIRs registered against him.

Desai has pleaded to the High Court that FIR filed against him by Cyber Crime Police Station be quashed.
