Curtorim, Goa – February 20, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Curtorim unit has officially submitted a complaint to the Public Works Department (PWD), Roads Division VI, Fatorda, demanding immediate action regarding the faulty speed breakers at Arlem, Raia, which recently led to the tragic loss of a young life.

The newly constructed speed breakers near Livrament Chapel have been poorly designed and fail to meet Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards, which pose a grave risk to motorists and pedestrians. Despite clear specifications for road safety infrastructure, the lack of proper dimensions, visibility, and warning signage have turned these speed breakers into a hazard rather than a safety measure.

Speaking on the issue, Joao Paulo Fernandes, AAP Curtorim Constituency Coordinator and a resident of Raia, stated,
“This tragic incident could have been avoided if the authorities had ensured proper planning and execution. Negligence in the design of these speed breakers is unacceptable. We demand accountability for this loss of life and immediate corrective measures to prevent further tragedies.”

In the complaint to PWD, AAP Curtorim has demanded:

  1. A formal inquiry to identify and hold accountable the officials and contractors responsible for this faulty construction.
  2. Filing of an FIR against those whose negligence led to the death of an innocent citizen.
  3. Immediate rectification of the speed breakers to meet IRC safety standards.
  4. A comprehensive audit of all speed breakers in Curtorim constituency to prevent similar incidents.
  5. Compensation for the family of the deceased, recognizing as administrative failures contributed to this tragedy.

AAP Curtorim calls upon the government and concerned authorities to act immediately to ensure road safety is prioritized. This should serve as a wake-up call to ensure all road infrastructure in Goa is built with proper planning and adherence to safety regulations.

The party will continue to monitor the situation and take further action if necessary to ensure that the demands are met and such negligence is not repeated.
