Panaji: 79 stranded Indian seafarers, including 46 Goans, landed in Mumbai this early morning from Johannesberg on a South African airlines which came to Mumbai after a stop over in Delhi .
Goa Seaman Association of India Founder President Dixon Vaz said that the seafarers were stranded after disembarking from MSC cruises ship called MSC Orchestra in Durban but were held due to lockdown in India and they were in a hotel for more than 50 days .
“The south African airlines was a special flight came to india to take its citizens .The seafarers were constantly in touch with us and this was a very suprise flight for them to come home with south African airlines,” he said.
“Out of 79 Indian seafarers 46 are Goans and are on way to goa directly on Volvo Kadamba busses and will reach Goa tomorrow morning and all the formalities will be done once they reach Goa including medical tests.”
Vaz said “We would like specially thank the KTC chairman and VasconMLA Mr Carlos Almeida and KTC Director who arranged the KTC busses which were sent to mumbai from Goa to Mumbai to get the goan seafarers.”
