Porvorim (GNH): Goa government has told the House that 381 government buildings in the state are either due for demolition repairs or renovation due to their deteriorated condition.
In a written reply to a question tabled by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, and Congress MLAs Carlos Ferreira and Altone D’Costa, chief minister Pramod Sawant has attached a list of 381 different buildings across the state which requires demolition or renovation or repairs.
He said that from this Financial year 2024-25, Public Works Department is entrusted with upkeep, repair and maintenance of all heritage structures, Government Buildings, Government Quarters, Structures, located in the State with works to be taken up under Demand No. 21 of the Department wherein Budget Heads with allocation of funds to take up various works are allocated.
“Accordingly, regular inspection of all buildings are taken up and during visual inspection if the condition of the building is aesthetically found okay then necessary repairs/maintenance works are proposed to be taken up and if major works are required to be undertaken, then NDT and Structural audit isrequired to be conducted to ascertain if the building is required to be demolished or undertake rehabilitation/repairs based on the audit report to utilize the building and put to use,” he said.
Sawant said that Further, Circular is also issued to ensure smooth execution/ implementation for regular upkeep,repairs and maintenance and a mechanism is now in place.
