16,000 litres of free water per month scheme to begin from tomorrow

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that the consumers in the state will get 16,000 litres water  per month free of cost from September 01 onwards.

Sawant had made the announcement about the free water to the consumers during his Independence Day speech.

In his address to the state on Tuesday, Sawant said that the scheme has been envisaged to ensure that the people save the water, which will be in force from September 01 onwards. “Under Save Water to get free water scheme, we are providing 16,000 litres of water per month free for each of the consumer,” the chief minister said.

He said that all the Goans should participate in the campaign and ensure that their water consumption is within the limit. Sawant said that the consumers will not be charged meter rent or sewerage charges, if their consumption is within the limit, eventually ending up paying nothing for the water.

The Chief Minister said that 60 per cent of the consumers will be beneifitted with the latest announcement.

In yet another announcement, the chief minister said that the small businesses  will be transferred from Industrial to commercial segment for water billing, due to which, they also will be able to take benefit of the scheme.
